YouTube Shorts will soon feature the new Veo 3 AI video generation model.

YouTube is set to enhance its platform with the introduction of the Veo 3 AI video generation model, which will be available for YouTube Shorts later this summer. This announcement was made during a keynote at the Cannes Lions festival, as reported by my colleague Allison Johnson, who described the model as “a slop monger’s dream” from YouTube CEO Neal Mohan.

Currently, Shorts creators have access to the previous-generation Veo 2 model, which allows them to utilize backgrounds with the Dream Screen feature, as well as standalone clips to generate. While specific details about the capabilities of Veo 3 in Shorts have not been disclosed, YouTube’s Chief Product Officer, Neal Mohan, hinted at the model’s advanced features, including its ability to incorporate audio improved video quality. This suggests that creators can expect significant upgrades when using Veo 3.

However, it remains uncertain whether Shorts creators will need to pay for access to the Veo 3 model. Currently, generating videos with Veo 3 requires a subscription to Google’s AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. As of now, Google has not responded to inquiries regarding potential costs associated with using Veo 3 for Shorts.

In addition to the announcement of Veo 3, Mohan shared impressive statistics about the platform, revealing that YouTube Shorts are now averaging over 200 billion views per day. This remarkable figure underscores the growing popularity of Shorts and the increasing engagement of creators and viewers alike.

As YouTube continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the introduction of the Veo 3 AI video generation model is expected to provide creators with new tools to enhance their content and reach wider audiences. The integration of advanced features and audio capabilities could further elevate the quality of videos produced on the platform, making it an exciting time for content creators.
