Donald Trump is reportedly considering the launch of a mobile network and a Trump-branded phone. DTTM Operations LLC, the entity Trump utilizes to manage his trademarks, has submitted applications to use both “Trump” and “T1” in relation to telecommunications, mobile accessories, and mobile phones.

The trademark applications, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office last Thursday, encompass a range of products and services including wireless phone services, mobile phones, cases, chargers, and retail outlets for selling these items.

While a trademark application does not guarantee the imminent launch of a Trump mobile network, it does indicate a serious intent. Patent attorney Josh Gerben noted on Friday that the specificity of the applications suggests significant consideration. As part of the filing, a lawyer representing Trump will have signed a sworn declaration affirming the company’s genuine plans to introduce these goods and services to the market.

However, the potential launch of a mobile network by Trump could face complications. Gerben highlighted that T-Mobile may have concerns regarding the application, as the designation “T1” could infringe on its existing trademarks. Additionally, there are questions about how FCC chairman Brendan Carr would manage the regulation of a network owned by Trump.

Trump is not the only public figure eyeing the telecommunications sector. Ryan Reynolds exited the industry after selling his stake in Mint Mobile to T-Mobile in 2023, while just last week saw the launch of SmartLess Mobile, a new venture associated with the podcast of the same name, hosted by Hollywood stars Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes.
