Microsoft Tests New Features in Windows 11

Hardware Indicator

Microsoft is currently testing a new feature in Windows 11 that allows users to customize the position of hardware indicator pop-ups, such as volume and screen brightness. These indicators can now be moved to the top-left and top-center positions of the display. This customization is part of a broader update to Windows 11, which also includes a new Recall homepage that highlights the top three apps and websites used within a 24-hour period.

Traditionally, Windows 11 displays volume, brightness, and airplane mode indicators at the bottom center of the screen. However, in the latest Dev Channel build, users can now select the position of these on-screen indicators, making them less intrusive while using applications. Notably, the top-right position is not available for selection, likely due to its proximity to the minimize, maximize, and close buttons of applications.

Recall Homepage

In addition to the changes regarding indicator placement, Microsoft is also testing a new Recall homepage. According to Microsoft’s Windows Insider team, “The new homepage brings your recent activity and top-used content front and center, enabling you to easily get back to your previous tasks.” This homepage displays recent snapshots along with the top apps or websites that have been utilized in the past 24 hours.

The Recall feature is also set to receive a new navigation bar on the left side, allowing users to quickly switch between this new home interface and the Timeline feature, which enables scrolling through all previous snapshots. Currently, these updates are being tested with Windows Insiders, and users can expect to see them rolled out more broadly in Windows 11 in the coming months.
