Troy Baker Stars in Mouse: P.I. For Hire

Troy Baker will don the cartoon fedora and play the lead role in Mouse: P.I. For Hire. The game has garnered buzz for its unique blending of genres. Imagine a film noir-infused cross between Cuphead and Doom.

Character Overview

Baker will portray Private Investigator Jack Pepper, the game’s protagonist. He is a war hero turned detective who begins his journey responding to a classic damsel in distress. Pepper’s investigation then reveals the layers of the city’s dark underbelly. It appears that developer Fumi Games has ticked all the items off the noir checklist.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that he is a rodent. Players can expect plenty of cheesy one-liners, including puns about cheese.

Gameplay Mechanics

As a first-person shooter, Mouse: P.I. For Hire features plenty of Rambo-style room-clearing action. Pepper’s arsenal includes conventional weapons like shotguns, as well as comically ludicrous options such as turpentine cleanser. There is even a nod to Popeye: players can consume a can of spinach to defeat their foes with enhanced strength.

Visual Style

The game’s animation draws inspiration from the same 1930s cartoons that influenced Cuphead. Similar to that game, Mouse: P.I. For Hire‘s monochromatic visuals are entirely hand-drawn. However, whether it will be as challenging as the 2017 classic remains to be seen. Watching the delightfully wacky trailers, it is easy to understand why gamers are eagerly anticipating this title.

Narrative Depth

While the premise sounds like a wild ride, it does not necessarily indicate a game that lacks depth. There may be more to the game’s narrative than initially meets the eye. Alternatively, it could simply be that The Last of Us actor is checking “played rodent” off his bucket list, which is certainly understandable!

Developer Insights

Baker has expressed his enthusiasm for the game’s development, having followed it since its first teaser. He stated, “Its art style, gameplay, and 1930s film-noir aesthetic continue to win me over. I cannot wait to keep working with the team to bring Jack Pepper to life and hope to have some exciting things to share as we get closer to launch!”
