Tinder Launches Double Date Feature to Enhance Social Dating Experience

Tinder’s new Double Date feature allows users to invite friends for a more social dating experience.

Tinder is evolving beyond its traditional role as a platform for solo dates. The company has announced the rollout of a new “Double Date” feature in the United States, enabling users to invite friends to find and match with another pair.

This innovative feature is accessible through a new “Double Date” icon located in the top-right corner of the app. Users can invite up to three friends to create pairs with, allowing them to scroll through a feed of paired profiles that appear side by side, complete with photos and descriptions. A match is established when one person from each pair swipes right, subsequently opening a group chat that includes all four users.

The introduction of this feature is expected to provide Tinder with a competitive advantage in the dating app industry continues to experience a slump. It positions Tinder to compete directly with other platforms designed specifically for double dates, such as Doubble and Fourplay.

Cleo Long, Tinder’s head of product marketing, shared insights with The Verge regarding the feature’s development. She noted that the platform has been testing the Double Date feature in Europe for a few months. Long emphasized that the feature aims to alleviate dating pressure, particularly among younger users. “This is a social-first experience that’s really meant to help relieve some of the pressure that we know a lot of Gen Z experiences with dating by making it more social, more fun, and bringing your friends in to help reinforce that comfort piece,” Long stated.

The Double Date feature builds upon several other social functionalities that Tinder has introduced in recent years. These include a feature that allows users to share the details of your dates with other people, as well as a way for friends or family members to find matches for them.

Tinder plans to expand the availability of the Double Date feature globally in July, further enhancing its offerings in the competitive dating app landscape.
