Core Devices, the company behind the innovative Core 2 Duo smartwatch, is preparing to ship 200 units to customers who participated in its preorder program. This announcement comes from Eric Migicovsky, the creator of the original Pebble smartwatch, who has shared significant updates regarding the smartwatch’s development on his personal blog and Eric Migicovsky.

According to Migicovsky, the Core 2 Duo smartwatch is “nearing mass production,” with the company on track to fulfill all pre-orders by July and August. Customers who have preordered the smartwatch can expect to receive an email later this month confirming their shipping details and any applicable regional charges, including duties, tariffs, and taxes.

In addition to the Core 2 Duo, Core Devices is also working on the Core 2 Time, an upgraded version that will feature a touchscreen along with enhanced sleep and step tracking capabilities. The company aims to have working engineering samples of the Core 2 Time ready within the next month, with a release planned for later this year.

Migicovsky further announced that the Core 2 Duo is set to enter beta testing, with 200 units manufactured for early preorder customers who opt in to participate. The company is actively seeking volunteers to test the new hardware, software, and mobile applications associated with the smartwatch.

Notably, the beta test program is not exclusive to those who preordered the Core 2 Duo. Migicovsky revealed that the new iOS and Android mobile applications are designed to be compatible with older smartwatch models, including the Pebble Time (both the Steel and Round versions) and the Pebble 2. Users who still own these older models are encouraged to join the beta program to help test the new app.

This development is particularly exciting for fans of the original Pebble watches, who have faced challenges in maintaining functionality since the company ceased support in Fitbit ended support back in 2018. The introduction of new mobile applications that support older devices offers a renewed opportunity for users to engage with their smartwatches.

As Core Devices moves forward with its plans, the smartwatch community eagerly anticipates the arrival of the Core 2 Duo and the enhancements it promises. With the beta testing phase underway, early adopters will have the chance to experience the latest innovations firsthand, contributing valuable feedback to the development process.
