Now in its third year, the Access-Ability Summer Showcase returns to address the ongoing need for meaningful accessibility information during the video game showcase season. As we see progress broadly slow down This event serves as a timely reminder of the significant efforts being made to enhance accessibility in gaming.

Organizer Laura Kate Dale stated, “At a time where we are seeing a slowdown in accessibility adoption in the AAA games space, we’re showing that there are interesting accessible games being made, games with unique and interesting features, and that being accessible is something that can bring an additional audience to purchase and play your games.” This highlights the importance of inclusivity in the gaming industry.

The showcase is expanding in 2025, featuring a longer format packed with a diverse array of games. It will be streamed concurrently on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, where it will also be available on-demand, as well as on Steam’s front page. This growth presents its own set of challenges, which have been addressed this year with the support of Many Cats Studio as a sponsor. The AA Summer Showcase offers an accessible platform in response to the high costs associated with showcasing games elsewhere (it has previously been reported that presenting trailers across Summer Game Fest starts at $250,000).

As the event continues to evolve, it aims to highlight the innovative approaches developers are taking to create accessible gaming experiences. The showcase not only emphasizes the importance of accessibility but also encourages developers to consider inclusivity as a core aspect of their game design.
