A Dolby Atmos feature that simplifies the creation of a spatial audio setup is set to launch on select TCL TVs and speakers. TCL is adding support for Dolby Atmos FlexConnect to its QD-Mini LED TVs in the 2025 Precise Dimming Series, which includes the QM8K, QM7K, and QM6K models. Additionally, TCL is introducing its new Z100 smart speaker designed to complement this feature.

Understanding FlexConnect

FlexConnect allows users to wirelessly connect their TV with specialized external speakers that can be positioned anywhere in a room. This innovative feature provides Atmos-enabled audio without the need for a symmetrical speaker setup. It aims to offer an alternative to traditional surround-sound systems, which can be limited by factors such as room size, outlet locations, and the complexities of mounting or cabling.

Availability and Pricing

The TCL TVs and wireless Z100 speakers are the first devices with FlexConnect support announced for the US market. The Z100 has already launched in China, priced at CN¥1,499 (approximately $208). However, US pricing has yet to be confirmed. TCL has indicated that users will be able to connect up to four Z100 speakers to compatible FlexConnect TVs in the US, with availability expected to begin this summer.

Comparative Analysis

The concept of FlexConnect is akin to other wireless Dolby Atmos products, such as the $2,500 Sony Bravia Theater Quad, but it is anticipated to be significantly more affordable. Furthermore, while the Theater Quad is only available in gray, the Z100 offers a variety of finishes, including gray, teal, and beige, making it easier for consumers to coordinate with their home decor.

Conclusion

TCL’s introduction of FlexConnect represents a significant advancement in home audio technology, providing users with a flexible and affordable solution for achieving high-quality sound. As the summer launch approaches, consumers can look forward to enhancing their audio experience with the new Z100 speakers and compatible TCL TVs.
