Spotify users have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of lossless streaming for over four years. Recent developments, however, suggest that this long-awaited feature might finally be on the horizon.

The official X account for Spicetify, a command-line tool designed for customizing the Spotify client, has revealed that a new version of Spotify includes hidden references to lossless streaming. In a screenshot shared by the account, the term “lossless” appears in the sidebar for connecting devices. Another screenshot indicates that lossless streaming could be an option in the app’s settings for streaming quality. Furthermore, the Spicetify account has noted that it has encountered code suggesting that lossless streaming will be available on Spotify Connect and in the web player.

It is important to clarify that Spotify’s lossless streaming feature is not yet available. However, these recent mentions and ongoing reports imply that the company may be preparing to introduce lossless streaming soon.

Initially, Spotify announced a “Spotify HiFi” tier that was expected to launch in 2021, but this rollout did not occur. In 2024, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek stated that the company was actively working on the feature a “deluxe” version of Spotify. Additionally, in February, Bloomberg reported that Spotify was planning to introduce a new “Music Pro” tier, which would include features such as higher-quality streaming by the end of this year. According to Bloomberg, this new tier could potentially cost users an additional $5.99 per month compared to current subscription plans.

Several other streaming services, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Tidal, already provide lossless streaming options, making Spotify’s potential entry into this market a significant development for audiophiles and casual listeners alike.

As the music streaming landscape continues to evolve, the introduction of lossless streaming by Spotify could enhance the listening experience for many users. With the growing demand for higher audio quality, it remains to be seen how Spotify will position itself against competitors that have already embraced lossless streaming.

For now, users will have to remain patient as they await further announcements from Spotify regarding the official launch of lossless streaming. The anticipation surrounding this feature highlights the importance of audio quality in the streaming industry and the ongoing competition among major players.

Stay tuned for more updates as Spotify continues to develop its services and potentially rolls out this highly anticipated feature.
