Spotify Introduces Remote Playlist Downloads for Premium Subscribers

Spotify is rolling out a new feature that allows Premium subscribers to remotely download playlists to additional devices. This functionality enables users to initiate downloads on one device, such as an iPhone, for another device, like an iPad or a backup phone, which is particularly useful ahead of a trip.

While this feature is beneficial in specific scenarios, the significant news is its compatibility with smartwatches. The integration extends to Wear OS devices and Apple Watch models. This enhancement addresses a common inconvenience for users who may forget to download their playlists before heading out for a walk or run. With this new capability, users can ensure their favorite music is ready to go, even when the secondary device is out of reach.

In addition to this feature, Spotify is introducing a “Manage Downloads” button. This button will assist users in managing their downloads effectively. It appears alongside playlists and provides a comprehensive list of devices where a particular batch of songs has been downloaded. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring that users do not exceed Spotify’s five-device limit for downloads.

The rollout of these features is currently underway for users globally. However, it may take several weeks for all users to receive the update. Previously, a version of this tool was available for Apple Watch users, but this marks the first time such functionality will be accessible to those within the Wear OS ecosystem.

Spotify has been actively enhancing its platform recently. The company recently opened up an audiobook shop for iOS users and unveiled a dedicated Following feed for podcasts.
