Blumhouse Productions to Adapt Phasmophobia into a Movie

The popular paranormal horror game Phasmophobia is being adapted is set to be adapted into a movie by Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster, in collaboration with the game’s developer, Kinetic Games. Blumhouse Productions is a prominent name in the horror genre, known for producing successful franchises such as The Purge and Paranormal Activity, along with critically acclaimed films like Get Out and The Invisible Man.

About Phasmophobia

First released on PCs in 2020, Phasmophobia quickly became a pandemic-era hit quickly gained popularity among gamers and streamers, amassing millions of views as players engaged with the multiplayer survival game. The gameplay involves one to four players working together to complete contracts that require them to identify the type of ghost haunting a specific location.

Rising Popularity of the Horror Genre

The horror genre has seen a significant rise in popularity in recent years, both in film video games and the gaming industry film business. In 2023, Blumhouse adapted another video game horror series Five Nights at Freddy’s into a film, which became the highest grossing film in its history. Additionally, Blumhouse has begun developing video games in-house, including a project announced last year released its first game, Fear the Spotlight.

Announcement of the Adaptation

Blumhouse Productions revealed the adaptation of Phasmophobia during its inaugural “Business of Fear” event held in Hollywood.
