Nintendo Switch 2 Availability and Features Update

Nintendo Switch 2 Console

Update, June 23rd: Best Buy has sold out of the standalone console, but it still has stock of the $499.99 Mario Kart World bundle.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been challenging to find in stock since its launch on June 5th, although restocks are beginning to increase. If you are looking for one, visit Best Buy’s website or use the app. Customers with a free account can purchase the standalone system ($449.99) and a console bundle ($499.99), which includes Mario Kart World. The latest Mario Kart game retails for $79.99 separately, so acquiring a system with the game included will save you $30 compared to purchasing them individually.

The Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling console of all time, selling over 3.5 million units within its first four days. This system is a hybrid handheld console, similar to the original Nintendo Switch, which has sold over 150 million units over the past eight years. The Switch 2 is compatible with most digital and physical games released for the original Nintendo Switch, and both Nintendo and game developers are actively releasing updates to enhance backwards compatibility.

The new system can run some (but not all) original Switch games at higher resolutions and frame rates than its predecessor, thanks to patches or paid Switch 2 Edition upgrades. My colleague Andrew Webster described the Switch 2 as “the Switch, just better” in The Verge’s review.
