Promised way back in June 2024, the Moto Tag location tracker is finally rolling out ultra-wideband (UWB) support via a firmware update. This update makes it the first tracker on Google’s Find Hub network to support UWB tracking, which is superior to Bluetooth technology. UWB utilizes distance measurements and directional arrows to guide users with compatible smartphones to their lost tags.

How to Update Your Moto Tag

To update your Moto Tag, you will need to download the 01.00.073.10-release of the Moto Tag app from the Play Store. After installing the app, you can then apply the 2.0.93 firmware that includes UWB support. It is important to note that you will also need a modern Android phone that supports UWB technology, which includes newer flagship models from Galaxy and Pixel.

Understanding the Delay

Motorola’s delay in rolling out UWB support can be attributed to the fact that Google’s Find Hub location network (previously known as Find My Device) only recently integrated UWB support recently lit up. In contrast, Samsung’s network for its SmartTags has supported UWB since its launch in 2020, while Apple’s network for AirTags has included this feature since its inception in 2021.
