Max Introduces Autoplay Video Previews and AI Technology

Max Autoplay Feature

Max, the streaming service soon to revert to its original name HBO Max, has announced a new feature that automatically plays video previews when users hover over shows and movies. This feature is currently being rolled out to users in the United States, enhancing the browsing experience on the platform.

In addition to the autoplay feature, Max is developing an “AI-assisted” tool designed to select the most engaging clips for these previews. According to the company, this AI tool will be able to identify standout scenes from its extensive library of shows and movies. The selected clips will then be curated by the Max team for inclusion in the video previews.

“This AI-driven technology will enable us to identify Drop-in Moments for the vast catalog of content on Max and significantly reduce the manual time needed to curate previews,” stated Avi Saxena, Warner Bros. Discovery’s chief technology officer, in a recent press release.

Furthermore, the streaming service will provide users with the option to disable audio or video in the autoplaying content, similar to features already available on Netflix. This flexibility aims to enhance user control over their viewing experience.

In January, Max made significant changes to its user interface by relocating options from the top menu bar to the left side of the screen. This adjustment is a strategic move that contrasts with the upcoming homepage redesign, which is expected to be revealed soon.

Max is also planning another major update this summer, which will further transform the user experience on the platform. For more details on these changes, users can stay tuned for announcements from the service.
