Apple’s New Adaptive Power Feature in iOS 26

Adaptive Power Feature
The “Adaptive Power” option will exist alongside “Low Power Mode.”

Apple is developing a new feature called “Adaptive Power” in its upcoming iOS 26, aimed at extending battery life for iPhone users. According to the iOS 26 developer beta, this feature will enable the iPhone to make “small performance adjustments to extend your battery life.” These adjustments may include lowering screen brightness and allowing certain activities to take a little longer to complete.

In addition to the Adaptive Power feature, Apple has indicated that it may automatically activate Low Power Mode when the battery level drops to 20 percent. This mode restricts background activities to conserve battery life. The feature was first reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who provided insights into the iPhone’s new capabilities last month.

Gurman noted that the Adaptive Power feature will utilize “battery data it has collected from users’ devices” to identify which applications require reduced power consumption. This approach is similar to existing features on Google has a similar Adaptive Battery feature for Android phones, which leverage artificial intelligence to analyze user behavior and deactivate less frequently used apps running in the background.

The Adaptive Power toggle is currently available alongside Low Power Mode in the Battery > Power Mode section of the Settings menu within the iOS 26 developer beta.

Apple is expected to expand the iOS 26 beta to a larger group of users next month, with a full rollout planned for the fall. This update will also include various design enhancements and improvements to key applications such as the Camera, Phone, Safari, and Messages apps. Additionally, users can look forward to Apple Intelligence-powered live translation features for text messages and calls, further enhancing the user experience.
