At the recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced its latest operating system, macOS Tahoe 26, which will be available across all its devices, including Macs. The macOS Tahoe 26 developer beta has been explored on the M4 MacBook Air for approximately one day. The aesthetic changes introduced in this version range from sleek to somewhat excessive, while the new Spotlight search features are both innovative and practical.

One of the most noticeable updates in macOS 26 is the introduction of glassy transparency effects throughout the interface. This design choice is evident in the Dock, Finder, widgets, and various built-in applications. Compared to the iPhone, the transparency effects on the Mac are more understated, primarily due to the larger screen size, which allows these Liquid Glass elements to serve more as accents rather than overwhelming features whatever this mess is supposed to be. While there may be some reservations about this design approach, it is possible that, like many user interface changes, it may grow on users over time.

The Dock has received a significant redesign, featuring a frosted background that is more translucent than the flatter design seen in the previous version, Sequoia. This hazy, frozen glass aesthetic extends to various widgets, including the calendar and weather applications, as well as drop-down menus, although the latter maintain a higher opacity. Additionally, the pop-up controls for volume and brightness have adopted this distorted glass appearance and have been relocated to the top-right corner of the screen, moving away from their previous position above the Dock. However, the new design elements have drawn mixed reactions, with some users finding them less visually appealing.
