GOG Introduces One-Click Installation for Select Mods

GOG has made it significantly easier to install and run game mods, addressing a long-standing challenge for fans eager to explore fan-made creations. With the new update, certain mods will now feature a simple “install” button, allowing players to get started with just a single click. These mods are conveniently packaged with the game, eliminating the need for players to spend hours searching the internet for the right files.

The company assures users that each mod has been “pre-packed, pre-tested” and will be “ready to go” upon installation. However, it is important to note that this feature is currently limited to a curated selection of mods. Players interested in using other mods will still need to install them using traditional methods.

Curated Selection of Mods

Fortunately, the curated list includes some standout options. Among these are Heroes of Might and Magic III: Horn of the Abyss and DOOM 3: Phobos. Perhaps the most notable entry is last year’s Fallout: London, an impressive fan-made update of Fallout 4 that transports players to London, offering access to a brand-new, expansive map.

Future Updates and Expectations

While The Elder Scrolls: Skyblivion is not included in this initial rollout, GOG has indicated that this fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which utilizes the Skyrim engine, is on the horizon is coming soon. Additionally, there are discussions surrounding an official remaster of Oblivion came out earlier this year.

This new feature is expected to enhance the gaming experience for many players, making it easier to enjoy the creativity and innovation of the modding community.
