Anker Recalls PowerCore 10000 Power Banks Due to Overheating Risks

Anker Innovations, a prominent Chinese manufacturer of power banks and accessories, has announced a product recall for its PowerCore 10000 power banks, specifically model A1263. This model was sold in the United States from June 2016 until December 2022 and is equipped with a lithium-ion battery that poses a risk of overheating, which could lead to burn injuries or even fires.

The recall notice issued by the product recall notice from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission highlights the potential hazards associated with the product: “The lithium-ion battery in the power bank can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.” Anker has committed to replacing the affected power banks.

According to the Commission, approximately 1,158,000 units of the PowerCore 10000 power banks are being recalled. Anker has received 19 reports of incidents involving burns, fires, and explosions related to this product. Among these reports, there are two instances of minor burns and 11 cases of property damage, amounting to over $60,700.

Only the Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks with model number A1263 are affected by this recall. If you own an Anker PowerCore 10000 power bank with this model number, it is crucial to stop using it immediately and contact Anker for a free replacement power bank. To receive a replacement unit, you will need to provide a photograph of your recalled power bank that clearly displays the model number and serial number. Additionally, you must include your name, the date the photo was taken, and the word “recalled” written on the power bank using permanent marker. While proof of purchase may be requested, it is not mandatory to participate in the recall process. Furthermore, you will need to confirm that the recalled power bank has been disposed of in accordance with applicable laws and regulations before receiving a replacement device.
