In recent weeks, I have been exploring a variety of new accessories designed for the Nintendo Switch 2. Many of these products were developed prior to the manufacturers having access to the actual console, which raises concerns about their fit and functionality. Even a minor discrepancy in dimensions can significantly impact the usability of these accessories. For instance, Genki’s Attack Vector has problems is currently undergoing revisions due to fit issues. However, among the options available, Dbrand’s Killswitch kit stands out for its superior fit and protection right from the start.

During my testing of the Killswitch kit on my console Steam Deck, I found it to be an excellent addition that maintains the integrity of the original design. One notable aspect of the Killswitch is that Dbrand had to create its own USB-C dock adapter, as the Killswitch-equipped console does not fit into Nintendo’s standard dock. Fortunately, this adapter is included with the kit, ensuring that there are no compromises in visual fidelity when using the console in docked mode. While the adapter may appear somewhat bulky, I appreciate its functionality, as it eliminates the need to remove the Killswitch every time I want to dock the Switch 2.

The most basic option available is the “Essentials” kit, priced at $59.95. This kit features a grippy, form-fitting shell that securely latches around the back of the Switch 2 while slightly overlapping the front. The shell can be affixed to the console using small adhesive strips, providing a snug fit that enhances the overall gaming experience.

For those looking for additional features, Dbrand offers a Travel tier priced at $80, which includes a transparent front cover. This cover not only protects the screen but also comes with a tray designed to hold up to 10 cartridges, making it a practical choice for gamers on the go.

Overall, the Killswitch kit from Dbrand represents a thoughtful approach to accessory design for the Nintendo Switch 2. Its combination of protection, functionality, and aesthetic appeal makes it a compelling option for both casual and dedicated gamers. As the market for Switch 2 accessories continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how other manufacturers respond to the challenges of creating compatible products.
