Amazon Prime Day 2025 is coming soon, and if history is any indication, it will bring a wide array of discounts on everything from gadgets to clothing to household necessities. If you’re a Prime member, you’ll have access to all of the Amazon Prime Day deals, which is advantageous in theory, but it will likely make Amazon’s website overwhelming during the shopping event.

Engadget will be highlighting all of the best tech deals we can find during Prime Day, but there are some important things to know ahead of time so you can maximize your experience during this year’s event. Here’s everything we know so far about Amazon Prime Day 2025, and what to consider before the shopping event arrives.

What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s members-only shopping event, meaning you’ll need to be a Prime subscriber on Prime Day to take advantage of most of the savings. Amazon still offers a 30-day free trial to new Prime subscribers, allowing you to start your free trial closer to July and participate in the event.

When is Prime Day 2025?

Amazon Prime Day 2025 will return this year sometime in July, but the official dates have not yet been released.

How often is Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day typically occurs annually in July. In recent years, Amazon has also introduced its “Big Deal Days” in October, which serves as a second Prime Day and unofficially kicks off the holiday shopping season.

How does Prime Day work?

Prime subscribers can visit Amazon’s site on Prime Day to view all of the exclusive deals available to them. Prime subscribers do not need to take any additional steps to access Prime Day sales; the discounts displayed on product pages will automatically appear in your cart. If you are not a Prime subscriber and visit Amazon on Prime Day, you will likely see numerous items on sale but only “with Prime;” those discounts will not be available to non-subscribers.

If you do not pay for Prime and have no intention of doing so, you should still check out Amazon on Prime Day for sales that are available to all shoppers — there are always a few. Additionally, it is very likely that other retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will have their own competing Prime Day sales during that time frame as well.

How to prepare for Prime Day

First, make a list. It’s best to approach Amazon Prime Day as prepared as possible; this means knowing exactly what you want so you can stay focused and avoid distractions. Make note of the most important items you wish to purchase on Prime Day ahead of time. You can do this the traditional way with a sticky note, or you can utilize Amazon’s wish list feature. For the latter, add the items you want to buy on Prime Day to your wish list (or, even better, create a dedicated wishlist with only your Prime Day desires) and refer back to that list during the shopping event. Not only will you have everything you want in one place, but you’ll also be able to see which of those items are cheaper on Prime Day than they were when you originally added them to your list.

Second, use a price tracker. Websites like CamelCamelCamel and Keepa allow you to monitor the prices of specific items on Amazon. You can check price history charts and set up your own price-drop alerts, receiving emails when something you want goes on sale. Both CamelCamelCamel and Keepa also offer browser extensions that you can download, so you don’t have to navigate away from an Amazon product page to check its price history.

Amazon Prime Day deals

Amazon Prime Day typically lasts a couple of days, but in recent years, the company has begun offering deals well before the event actually starts. We anticipate a similar approach this year, with early Prime Day deals potentially beginning as soon as Amazon officially announces the dates for Prime Day 2025.

While we wouldn’t classify the following sales as “early Prime Day deals” just yet, they do represent some of the best deals currently available on Amazon as we await the full details of Prime Day to be revealed.
