Nintendo Switch 2 eShop Improvements: A Faster Experience

Nintendo Switch 2 Console

Ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo announced significant improvements to the eShop, promising a smoother and more efficient experience on the new console. Initial testing conducted by The Verge indicates that the Switch 2’s eShop indeed offers a markedly enhanced user experience.

Performance Issues with the Original Switch eShop

The original Nintendo Switch eShop has faced criticism for its sluggish performance. Users often experience noticeable lag when navigating between sections, and loading game pages can be frustratingly slow. This delay detracts from the overall shopping experience, leading many users to prefer purchasing digital games directly from Nintendo’s website, which offers a more seamless experience.

Enhanced Speed on the Switch 2 eShop

In contrast, the eShop on the Switch 2 is significantly faster. Navigation feels much more responsive, with much less lag when browsing through different sections and loading game pages. A video comparison captured by my colleague Tristan Cooper illustrates this dramatic improvement in speed when accessing the eShop on both consoles.

Improved Search Functionality

Searching for games has also seen enhancements. Users can expect a quicker response time when searching for Deltarune, making it easier to find desired titles without the frustration of delays.

Director’s Insights on eShop Improvements

“Thanks to the system’s performance capabilities, Nintendo eShop on Switch 2 has been improved and runs smoothly even when displaying a large number of games,” stated Takuhiro Dohta, the Switch 2 director, in an interview published in April. “We believe the act of finding the game you want to play is itself part of the game system experience.”

Conclusion: A Major Upgrade

Currently, the eShop represents a significant upgrade within the overall Switch 2 experience. This improvement is expected to enhance user satisfaction and streamline the process of purchasing games, making it a more enjoyable aspect of the gaming ecosystem a better place to find great games.
